Our team loves the holiday season, and it’s certainly one of the most exciting times of the year. Here are some tips you can use to ensure that your teeth are having a jolly time too. If you have any more queries or concerns about keeping your teeth healthy this holiday season, be sure to phone us at 732-341-1120 to pencil in your next checkup so we can discuss them with you in-person.
Go easy on the alcohol. A number of festivities are celebrated with a little bit of alcohol drinking, so if you celebrate in this way, be sure to take it easy on the alcohol. Drinking too much alcohol can dry out your saliva reserves and leave you unshielded against cavity-triggering bacteria.
Skip sticky foods. Sticky foods, though tasty, are some of the worst for your teeth. When sticky foods dry on your teeth, they can be hard to remove from your teeth with normal brushing and flossing. If you do consume sticky foods, consider drinking a cup of water to rinse out your oral cavity afterward.
Go light on starchy foods. Starchy foods such as cake, cookies, and potato chips are sure to be a hit at multiple holiday parties, but they may alter your teeth negatively. The carbohydrates in these foods build plaque on teeth, and when that plaque isn’t removed soon, it can develop into tartar, which will require extraction by a dentist.
